Book of SIRUSA for 25 years of operation
More than a hundred people attended the presentation of the book “Sirusa, 25 years”, which took place in the lobby of the Tarragona theater. At the end, the attendees collected a copy of the work, which has a profuse graphic documentation complementing the content and a translation into spanish of the entire text.
The two authors, journalists Tomás Carot and Oscar Ramírez, respectively explained their areas of work: the history and evolution, and the views of the mayors.
The director of the Catalan Waste Agency (ARC), Josep M. Tost, in his parliament showed that Catalonia is currently one of the referents in management and treatment of waste in Southern Europe and the Mediterranean, “and the our goal is none other than continue to thrive in the line of the best european referents”, he said.
“In these 25 years, SIRUSA and the ARC - although recalling that the Waste Board was born in 1993 - we have advanced and we have been able, within its scope of action, to incorporate great objectives of minimization, valorization and controlled disposal of rejection”, he added.
For his part, the president of the provincial council, Josep Poblet, highlighted the support role that the provincial corporation has always had in the development and consolidation of the project, stating that “we should only look where we were and where we are: the advantages are evident.”
He also highlighted the world reference model that SIRUSA has become. “equipped with modern technology and the certifications that guarantee compliance with environmental management and prevention policies, this facility has become a worldwide reference in the treatment of waste in the urban area - Mexico, Argentina or In China they have taken it as a model - and also in terms of its subsequent re-use.”
Finally, the mayor of Tarragona and president of SIRUSA, had an impact on the informative nature of the book, “which seeks to contribute to the teaching and knowledge of how an essential infrastructure for the territory works.”
The emphasis, in a key of recognition, on the human team: “the perfect gear of the process in which each person, with his professional profile, plays the essential role to obtain the overall result of efficiency and effectiveness.”
To close the act, and summarizing the past and future of the company and the plant, he said: “we are proud of how, with perseverance, tenacity and transparency, we move towards zero residue.”
